SRINAGAR: 16th December remembers the 141 lives of those lost in Peshawar’s Army Public School (APS) massacre, which included 134 children and 7 members of staff, in one of the darkest days in Pakistan’s history.
The school’s building was breached by armed militants, dressed as security officials, and they brutally massacred children of all ages. The monstrous attack’s responsibility was taken by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The heart-breaking event happened on the morning of 16th December 2014.
While the whole world pays tribute to those lost in the APS attack, the Indian Army paid a horrendous ‘tribute’ by breaching the ceasefire at Line of Control (LoC) again. The troops opened fire on a travelling in a school van and injured 10 innocent children. Three children were said to be in critical condition, while the driver – carrying the 20 children – died on the scene.
In a statement released by the ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations), it was confirmed that four children were injured and 1 civilian was killed. ISPr said, “Indian troops violated the ceasefire sanctity and targeted a school van at LoC in Nakial sector today. Pakistani troops responded effectively and targeted Indian posts from where fire was coming.”
The children injured in today’s scourge incident were aged similar to those who lost their lives on 16th December; all children were aged between 8 years to 15 years. This was the first act of cross-border firing under General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s charge as COAS. The families of the children – belonging to a private school in Nakyal Sector of Azad Kashmir – were praying for their loved ones’ survival.
