ISLAMABAD: Owners of petrol pumps and CNG in Lahore have committed tax evasion of Rs 1.194 billion.
This shocking news was revealed in an official document that was tabled in the parliament committee for probe.
The CNG and petrol pumps owners have collected billion of rupees from consumers and have not deposited a single penny in banks.
Owners were supposed to deposit the amount of tax, collected from consumers, in national exchequer as per rules and regulations but after PML-N came into power, the owners of hundreds of CNG stations installed, in the surrounding areas of Lahore, did not deposit the value over Rs 1.19 billion.
Under section 3-B of sales tax Act 1990, a person or department, which collects tax from consumers, is bound to deposit the amount in national exchequer within 90 days, otherwise concerned department or person would be considered as a defaulter and action would be taken against him.
In this regard, the FBR’s authorities said that showcase notices have been issued to CNG station and petrol pump owners. However, the higher authorities did not take any action against officials who assess the tax value.
