ISLAMABAD: While admitting for hearing Naheed Khan’s petition regarding party registration and allotment of electoral symbol to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) case, Supreme Court (SC) issued notices to Latif Khosa and Election Commission.
A three-member bench of the SC, presided over by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, took up the case for hearing on Thursday.
During the course of hearing, Nahid Khan’s counsel took the plea that in 2013 general elections, application for party registration and allotment of electoral symbol was filed on March 4, 2013 from our side, while PPP’s Latif Khosa had filed petition pertaining to registration and electoral symbol after expiry of legal period. Election Commission accepted Latif Khosa petition, while rejecting our petition.
Counsel further added that Asif Ali Zardari has admitted that PPP is not a political party and will not participate in electoral process. On this, Justice Faisal Arab remarked, “PPP is contesting elections on this name since 70s.”
The court issued notices to Latif Khosa and Election Commission in electoral symbols allotment case. Notices were also issued for stay order on election commission decision for allotment of symbol of arrow to PPP.
The court has adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
