WASHINGTON: In an interview with the Voice of America’s Uzbek service, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Thomas Shannon—a senior official in the Trump administration—has confirmed that the United States will place travel restrictions on Pakistani diplomats serving in the US.
The official further claimed that the move was in response to restrictions Pakistan has imposed on American diplomats, and argued that such moves are the norm in diplomatic relations.
Under the new restrictions, Pakistani diplomats will have to take permission five days prior to travelling to a destination that lies outside of a 25-mile radius from their location of work. The new restrictions could come into effect as soon as the first of May.
