LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has opened up new avenues of economic and trade development for Pakistan.
Talking to Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, who called on the chief minister here on Tuesday, Shahbaz said that Pakistan was heading towards its lost destination under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He said that friends of Pakistan are happy with the CPEC, while enemies have become upset with launch of the mega project. He said that no one would be allowed to hatch conspiracies against CEPC. The chief minister said that national resources worth billions of rupees had been saved by ensuring transparency in all development projects undertaken by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.
In a veiled reference to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shahbaz said, “Conspiracy was hatched through lockdowns and sit-ins but people paid no response to such calls and failed them. He said those who where opposing development projects had been left alone. He added that nobody would be allowed to disrupt the development process in the country, and all promises made with the people will be fulfilled.
Speaking on the occasion, Khwaja Saad Rafique that the leadership of the PML-N believed in transparency, merit and good governance and their services were praiseworthy. He said that speedy completion of mega development projects had become a hallmark of the Punjab government. Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique was also present on the occasion.
Separately, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss situation of law and order and development projects in Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the PML-N government was giving equal importance to development of rural and urban areas with special emphasis on southern Punjab.
He said that the government was taking effective measures for protection of life and property of the citizens.

Meanwhile, the chief minister has congratulated Malala Yousafzai on becoming the ‘peace ambassador’ of the United Nations. Malala was designated as UN Messenger of Peace with a special focus on girls’ education.
