ISLAMABAD: Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) Social Sector Secretary has said that Independent Monitoring Units (IMUs) were being established in FATA to check absenteeism of teachers and ensure their full attendance.
The secretary was giving a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), which met on Monday in the Parliament House, under the chairmanship of Member of National Assembly (MNA) Muhammad Jamalud Din.
The meeting was also attended by Ghalib Khan, Begum Tahira Bukhari, Iffat Liaqat, Dr Asma Mamdot, Surraiya Jatoi, Aftab Shaban Mirani, Qaiser Jamal, Muhammad Kamal Malik, Bilal Rehman, Nasir Khan, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah and Mian Shahid Hussain Khan Bhatti.
The secretary apprised the committee that they had launched a number of initiatives for improvement of education in FATA.
The Committee took serious notice of the absence of the FATA additional chief secretary and directed SAFRON to write a letter to convey the reservations of the standing committee to the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The committee also directed that the additional chief secretary should ensure his presence in the next meeting otherwise a privilege motion would be moved against him.
The committee was also briefed on the compliance of recommendations made in its last meeting held on October 24, 2016 and other agenda items regarding steps taken by the FATA Secretariat for improvement of education in FATA.
