ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has adjourned till January 22, the hearing of disqualification references against PTI chairman Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen because of the absence of counsel for PML-N.
All the members including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) expressed displeasure over seeking adjournment of the hearing of the case repeatedly by government and directed if government counsel Akram Sheikh does not appear then decision of the case would be announced in his absence on February 22.
The hearing of disqualification reference cases was conducted by a five member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan.
The references were referred by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq against Pakistan TehreekeInsaaf (PTI) leaders Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen seeking their disqualification.
The Counsel for the PML N leader Talal Chaudhry told the court that their counsel Akram Sheikh could not come being pre-occupied therefore, the date of hearing may please be changed.
Chief Election Commissioner remarked “ you are prolonging the case by seeking adjournments repeatedly. Then we are maligned.
Chief Election Commission instructed if government counsel Akram Sheikh does not appear before court then the decision of the case would be announced in his absence on February 22.
