LAHORE: The initial report on the Lahore suicide attack was presented to the Punjab Chief Minister on Tuesday.
According to the report, a suicide bomber of age 16 to 18 years was seen hovering around at 5pm at Chairing cross on Mall Road. It said that the bomber exploded himself up near ongoing demonstration of pharma manufacturers at around 6.10pm, killing at least 13 people, including DIG Traffic Captain (r) Syed Mobin Ahmed and SSP (Operations) Zahid Gondal, and injuring more than 100 others.
Around six to eight kilogrammes of explosives material was used in the blast, it added. “The body parts of the suicide bomber, including arms and legs, have been recovered and sent to laboratories for the DNA test,” it said, and added that the CCTV camera failed to record the footage of the blast. However, the report revealed that the CCTV camera had recorded the footages of his three alleged accomplices.
“Two vehicles and a dozen motorcycles were damaged in the blast as its intensity was massive.”
Commenting on the tragic incident, the chief minister Tuesday tweeted, “Heart bleeds at the loss of precious lives including those of my team members Ahmad Mobin and Zahid Gondal martyred in the line of duty.”
He added, “The blood of martyrs is a debt on us and we are going to come after our enemies wherever they are holed up.” The chief minister also inquired after the health of the injured at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday, besides attending funeral prayers of seven police officials.
Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, Lahore Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali, provincial ministers, advisers, parliamentarians, chief secretary, IGP, senior military and civilian officers and the people from all walks of life attended the funeral prayers.
The chief minister and the corps commander also laid wreaths on the graves of the martyrs and offered Fateha. Expressing his condolence to the bereaved families, the chief minister said that the martyrs had given supreme sacrifices for a great cause and their sacrifices would be remembered forever.
