SRINAGAR: In Indian Held Kashmir (IHK), Hurriyet leaders and parties have strongly condemned the attack by Indian police on journalists at Hyderpora in Srinagar terming it the worst display of Indian state terrorism.
Several journalists were injured after Indian police attacked them on Thursday when they had reached Hyderpora for the coverage of a proposed press conference by joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The spokesman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) said that the incident pointed to the fact that Kashmir had practically been converted into a police state. He said that if journalists were subjected to such treatment it could easily be understood as to what common people would be going through on daily basis. He said that the incident showed how difficult it was for the journalists to carry out their professional duty on the ground. He added that the authorities were using brute force to put pressure on journalists so that the truth did not come out before the world.
The APHC spokesman termed the manhandling of the journalists by the police as violation of democratic norms and human values and said that it also exposed the tall claims of democracy and the freedom of speech of the so-called rulers.
The spokesman of Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also condemned the assault on journalists describing it the worst example of Indian state terrorism in the occupied territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front spokesman denounced the attack on journalist and termed it frustration of the authorities.
