LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday sought reply from the government until January 16, 2017 on a petition challenging the appointment of Fatima Sheikh as Child Protection Welfare Bureau director general (DG).
The CJ ordered the Punjab additional advocate general to submit reply on the next date of hearing on behalf of the government to the questions raised in the petition.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Andleeb Abbas filed the petition. Petitioner Sheraz Zaka submitted that Fatima was made the DG, whereas the law required that an officer from PMS or DMG could hold this office. He said the government had been failed to enforce provisions of Employment of Children Act 1991 and Neglected and Destitute Children Act 2004.
He said that under the employment of children act the age of child was mentioned as 14 years, whereas under Punjab Neglected and Destitute Children Law the age of child is mentioned as 18 years but under Article 25-A of the constitution the age of child was mentioned as 16 years. He requested to direct the government to initiate legislative provision in order to remove the discrepancies in laws.
