WASHINGTON: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto tried to act as a mediator between the Arabs and Israelis during the Arab-Israel war, according to a declassified document archived by America’s Central Intelligence Agency.
The document states that Bhutto toured the Arab countries to defuse tensions upon requests made by then US secretary of State Henry Kissinger, but his tribulations were of no avail as former king of Saudia Arabia, Shah Faisal, along with leaders of other Arab nations rejected any offer until Israel withdrew its security forces from all the territories it occupied.
