HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday ordered the provincial government to amend the laws to end confusion over the administrative authority in a teaching hospital in the Benazirabad district.
The Hyderabad Circuit Bench gave the order in a petition filed by a resident of Benazirabad, Mumtaz Ahmed.
The petitioner had claimed that the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad (Amendment) Act of 2015 had given administrative control of the Peoples Medical Hospital to the university.
However, in contravention of the act, the Sindh Health Department through its Medical Superintendent continued to retain administrative control, he added.
During the hearing, the Health Special Secretary informed the court that the amendment in the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Shaheed Benazirabad Act, 2009, was carried out without consulting the health department.
He further apprised the court that the health department conveyed its reservations against the amended Act to the Sindh Chief Minister and requested him to amend the law once again, to give back administrative control from the university to the health department.
The official claimed that a summary in that regard had been approved by the Chief Minister and an amendment bill would be soon tabled in the Sindh Assembly.
