RAWALPINDI: Fencing has began along Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Saturday as per the announcement of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa during his visit to Mohmand and Orakzai agencies on Saturday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations said soldiers deployed in Soran and Kalaya met General Bajwa.
Addressing the troops, the COAS said that fence installation has begun along Pakistan-Afghanistan border and that secure border between the neighbouring states is mutually beneficial.
He said that it is military’s priority to install fences in dangerous zones like Bajaur and Mohmand agencies. The army chief held inclusion of Federally Administered Tribal Areas in mainstream a process that is in the best national interest. General Bajwa added that the nation is proud of the sacrifices rendered by the Pakistan Army. He paid tribute to martyred major and two soldiers.
The statement added that additional technical surveillance means are also being deployed along the border besides regular air surveillance. He further said that efforts are being made to “evolve a bilateral border security mechanism with Afghan authorities”.
He was also given a detailed briefing about border security arrangements, cross border terrorist threat and recent terrorist attacks from across on the Pakistani posts.
Pakistan-Afghanistan border was sealed earlier this year, both at Chaman and Angoor Adda, over escalated tensions.
Pakistan demanded that the Afghan government take action against terror outfits that are operating from its soil. The Pakistan Army and the government urged Afghanistan after a fresh wave of terrorism hit the country claiming over 100 lives and wounding more than 200. Lahore, Quetta, Sehwan Sharif, Peshawar were hit by terrorists in the latest strikes.
Islamabad has cleared multiple times that terrorists cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan and the Afghan troops need to maintain a stricter check on cross-border movement. Earlier, the chief was received by Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Nazir Butt.
