LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Wednesday said that Sindh is not getting its due water share despite announcement by Indus River System Authority (IRSA) to enhance it by 25,000 cusecs.
While addressing an Iftar dinner arranged in his honour by peoples party office bearers of UC-2 and UC-4 Suhaib Narejo and Kashif Umrani, Khuhro said that according to IRSA, Sindh should now get 135,000 cusecs of water.
Khuhro alleged that water of Sindh is being stolen from Taunsa through lift machines for which Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) should take notice.
Sindh PPP Chief said that the province is not getting water over 90,000 cusecs from Taunsa to Gudu and due to acute water shortage millions of acres of fertile lands of Badin and Thatta have been swallowed by sea.
He said CJP should take notice of water shortage and ensure implementation of Water Accord of 1991 so that Sindh could be able to get its due water share.
Khuhro said some elements are attacking Sindh by talking about creating new provinces and construction of Kalabagh dam adding their dreams will never come true. He said PPP will fight against enemies of Sindh.
The PPP leader categorically said that neither new provinces will be made nor construction of Kalabagh dam will be allowed adding such elements should stop playing with the sentiments of people of the province. He said MQM has no other option to get votes in Karachi which is why they are misleading Karachiites by talking about new provinces, but now they cannot befool the public as they stand exposed.
In a possible reference to Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Khuhro said the PPP will defeat the supporters of dictators from Kashmore to Karachi with the power of people’s vote. He said PPP has rejected price hike in petrol, diesel and kerosene and urged the caretaker government to withdraw it immediately as it will further plunge poverty-stricken people.
He demanded foolproof security for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari saying Benazir Bhutto was martyred by terrorists as security was not provided to her. He said no compromise will be made over Bilawal’s security as PPP has been raising voice against terrorism and extremism.
It must be noted here that over 200 plain clothes policemen wearing white colour dresses were deployed during the arrival of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for filing of nomination papers of NA-200 seat on June 11 which has created an uproar.
