ISLAMABAD: Minister of State and BISP Chairperson Marvi Memon in a ceremony to commemorate International Day for People with Disabilities stated that there was a strong need to target people with disabilities and invest resources on them.
The ceremony was held at the BISP Secretariat and aimed to launch a pilot project on caring for disabled persons. Marvi said that the disabled persons should be provided with education, skills and health protection. She said that disability may be a cause or consequence of poverty, therefore disability dynamics must be kept in mind while making policies for poverty alleviation, adding that exclusion of disabled persons from active and productive participation leads to economic losses.
The event was attended by a number of BISP beneficiaries and their children. The purpose of the event was to motivate and support beneficiaries with special children in order to make them an inspiration for other weak and disabled people.
During the ceremony, three disabled children, Nasreen, Qasim Khan and Aqsa were nominated as brand ambassadors of BISP. The BISP chairperson stated that the lives of these brand ambassadors would be tracked, and through the support of the BISP they would emerge as a source of inspiration and hope for other special people.
