ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Friday said that no one would be allowed to undermine the dignity of parliament.
“Ensuring sanctity of the House is my responsibility and I will not allow the dignity of the House to be damaged,” he said while presiding over the NA session. “Un-parliamentary language was used during the incident that took place a day before in the House. I will consult the heads of all parliamentary parties as to how to run the House, because it is matter of sanctity of parliament. No compromise will be made on this count,” he stated.
He said that the heads of all parliamentary parties would have to explain their position with regard to Thursday’s incident. He underlined that he would take all necessary measures, taking the government and the opposition into confidence, to run the House. After this, he adjourned the session for 15 minutes. Only 36 lawmakers were present in the House. As soon as the proceedings started, the session was adjourned for consultation with the opposition parties.
Later, the NA met for five minutes under Mubashar Virk, the chairman of the presidential panel. The session will now resume on Monday, January 30, at 4:30pm.
