LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Wednesday arranged a reception in the honour of former parliamentarian and twice-elected LHCBA chairman Barrister Malik Saeed Hassan for his miraculous services for supremacy of constitution, rule of law and democracy at the Lahore High Court premises.
Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, lawyers’ representative bodies, jurists, LHCBA President Rana Zia Abdur Rehman, former judges Mian Aftab Farrukh and Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, former LHCBA president Anwar Kamal, Senator Kazim Khan, Awami National Party (ANP) senior vice president Ehsan Wyne, Barrister Zafarullah, Malik Saeed’s wife Dr Shahnaz Hassan, his son Tariq and others highlighted the remarkable services of Malik Saeed as a lawyer during more than three decades.
The LHC CJ said, “Malik Saeed is not only a role model for young lawyers but also for judges.” He said Malik Saeed never compromised on principles and always fought for what was the right. The CJ said Malik Saeed had always encouraged the youth to strive for rule of law with
dedication.
Rana Zia said that Malik Saeed’s popularity could be judged by the fact that the LHCBA twice elected him for the top slot in 1974 and 1985. He said resignation of Malik Saeed as the LHC judge after imposition of Zia’s martial law had made him immortal in the judicial history of Pakistan.
Mian Aftab Farrukh, who is a friend of Malik Saeed since childhood, said that Malik Saeed had always wanted to reach the top from his tender age. He said the youth, who intended to adopt legal profession should follow in Malik Saeed’s footprints.
In his address, Senator Kazim Khan said that Malik Saeed’s services as a parliamentarian were extraordinary. He recalled that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto during his trial nominated Malik Saeed as the secretary of his party.
Hafiz Abdul Reman Ansari shared that other than a top jurist, Malik Saeed Hassan was an ideal human being who served humanity.
Dr Shahnaz Hassan in her brief address expressed love for her spouse. She went on to say that she worship him as her life partner. Tariq Hassan, son of Malik Saeed, said that whatever he was in the life was due to his great father.
Malik Saeed, who is not enjoying good health, arrived at the arena on a wheelchair and was given a rousing welcome. He thanked the participants for showing great respect for him. He urged the youth to dedicate their lives for betterment of the motherland. He also advised the youth never to bow before any oppression.
Later, a documentary on the life of the former judge was also displayed.
