PESHAWAR: A bomb blast occurred outside the hujra (male guesthouse) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Fazal Elahi in the Hazar Khawani area of Peshawar on Thursday evening.
According to police, no casualty was reported in the incident, as the building was empty and MPA Fazal Elahi was also outside his house.
Fazal Elahi was elected an MPA on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket from PK-6 and his house is located in the suburban area of Peshawar.
The police said that Fazal was also receiving threatening calls from extortionists and this blast might be a result of it. However, they said that investigation had been started into the incident.
Meanwhile, a prayer leader was arrested during a search operation by the Counter Terrorism Department in Peshawar for allegedly possessing a suicide jacket and other explosives.
Sources said that the suicide jacket and explosive material had been recovered some days ago during a search operation, but due to certain reasons the suspect could not be arrested. Later, law enforcement agencies, through an affective mechanism, ensured the arrest of the suspect.
According to the CTD, the arrested suspect, identified as Sahabur Rehman, is an Afghan national.
