MARDAN: In an unfortunate incident, the policemen on Thursday shot dead a man outside the local courts on the Mall Road after they mistook him for a suicide bomber. Officials said Ulas Khan, a resident of Shereen Koto, was passing on the Mall Road outside the local court in Mardan when the cops on security duty asked him to stop for search.
“Unfortunately, the man did not stop on the signals by the cops. The cops first hit the bicycle with the vehicle when the vendor didn’t listen to warning shouts. And opened fire when he tried to run away,” said an official.
The injured man was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Khan said the police first rammed a vehicle into the bicycle when the vendor didn’t listen to warning shouts and shot him when he tried to run away. The angry relatives of the deceased wanted to register the first information report (FIR) but the police refused to register the case.
