ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that the sale of donated blood is a non-pardonable offence because it is the matter of protection of human lives.
He further remarked that this is the matter of paramount significance for Supreme Court (SC).
He gave these remarks during presiding over a 3- member bench of SC during the course of hearing of suomotu notice case against theft of medicines in government hospitals and the sale of donated blood.
During the course of hearing, a doctor from polyclinic took the plea that before 2016, the technician of grade 9 to 14 scales were allowed to issue blood without the permission of an officer.
The technicians facing the charges of donated blood sale backed out from their confessional statements later.
CJP remarked, “Selling donated blood is a non-pardonable crime. Anyone can deviate from one’s confessional statement, the matter of health is very important in our view; this is the matter of human life. If inquiry is not conducted again then we cannot reach logical conclusion.
The court while winding up the hearing ordered to the polyclinic hospital to implement new SOPs about sale of blood strictly.
The court further remarked that new SOPs are acceptable to all stake holders. SOPs on sale of blood are implemented strictly. A strict action is to be taken against the violators of SOPs.
The court has adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
