ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday gave his formal assent to the 28th Amendment bill-2017 and Inquiry Commission Bill, by making the military courts functional for the next two years.
The bill got approved after discussion between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and opposition parties.
The military courts were first set up by the parliament in early 2015, in response to an attack by the Tehreek-e-Taliban terrorists on Army Public School in Peshawar that killed 134 children. The tenure of military courts was expired on January 7.
The courts have delivered so far 275 convictions, including 161 death sentences, and carried out 17 executions.
