LARKANA: The dispute between Paramedic Association office bearers & Medical Superintendent (MS) of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) led to a complete strike in the Hospital which almost paralysed the functioning of 1500-bed capacity largest Teaching Hospital of upper Sindh here on Tuesday.
OPDs of all four blocks were locked including laboratories, X-Rays, Ultrasounds, CT scan/MRI & main medicine store also remained locked whereas the MS tried his best to unlock the OPDs and get these started but in vain.
These Blocks include Teaching Block, Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women, Children Hospital and Civil Hospital Block including Z A Bhutto Lab. Only Accident & Emergency Centre was working. All OPD doctors came out of the buildings as there were no paramedics to issue OPD slips. Worst affected were those poor men, women and child patients who arrived from far flung and remote areas to get specialised medical treatment for their various ailments.
The agitating employees at the very outset staged sit-in in front of main OPD block in the morning, then took out a large rally and reached at Jinnah Bagh roundabout where they held protest and chanted slogans of ‘Go Kandhro Go’ against MS, Dr. Inayatullah Kandhro. Due to strike all operations were also postponed, claimed the sources.
While addressing the participants, Shahi Khan Jagirani, President, Paramedical Staff Association, CMCH Chapter, said that according the decision of the apex court grade 20 officer is to be posted on the post of BPS-20 but Sindh government has posted a most junior doctor of BPS-19 in CMCH as MS which is clear violation. He alleged that MS is harassing us through his various disciplinary actions therefore he should be removed, he demanded. He announced that if locks are opened then even hospital will not be allowed to function adding their protest will continue till Dr. Kandhro is transferred.
Dr. Inayat Kandhro said while talking to Media that they are trying to blackmail me and announced that if any patient suffered due to their strike and protest then these leaders will be responsible and FIR will be registered against them. He said that there is no reason for protest because he shifted few employees from one place to another on receipt of complaints.
He said that highhandedness and bad behaviour with the patients will never be tolerated. Dr. Kandhro further said that bio-metric system is being installed in the Hospital due to which the supporters of ghost employees are feeling unrest and they want the system failed for which they are creating unnecessary turmoil. Seven employees were transferred on strike day which include Ihsan Jagirani brother of Shahi Khan Jagirani from Main Medical Store. Dr. Kandhro also briefed the District & Sessions Judge, Larkana, in his office about the prevailing situation in the Hospital.
