After passing rudimentary and required assessments, the first Pakistan owned early harvest wind power project has been constructed in the province of Sindh.
The project is the result of collaboration under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and has started commercial operation.
Developed by Sachal Energy Development (Pvt) Limited, the 49.5 MW facility covers over 680m acres of land in the Jhimpir Wind Corridor and was financed by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
China and Pakistan signed $57 billion worth of energy and infrastructure under CPEC framework, out of which the bulk of the investment is to go to energy projects such as renewable and clean energy which will not only overcome the energy crisis in Pakistan but also cut carbon emissions and lead Pakistan to renewable forms of energy production.
Sachal Energy is an owned subsidiary of Arif Habib Corporation Limited which is one of the largest private sector conglomerates in Pakistan.
After receiving formal notification from the Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Limited, the company has been commissioned to the supply of electricity for 20 years under an energy purchase agreement through the National Transmission and Dispatch Company
Manufactured by the Goldwind Company of china, the project consists of 33 wind turbine generators whereas the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) is under HydroChina. The project is the first of its kind to receive 100% financial backing by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
