LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira has asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (PM) to disclose those who are taking revenge on him and his family as claimed by the premier.
Addressing a gathering held to observe the ‘black day’ against 1977 military coup on Wednesday, the PPP leader said that the Supreme Court “had declared Nawaz Sharif dishonest but he was still asking under what allegations he and his family members were being held accountable for”. Members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) were also present. Kaira was also invited to address the bar as part of a campaign launched to seek the premier’s resignation until the final verdict in the Panama Papers case. He said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had never sacrificed for the country. He alleged the leaders like PM Nawaz had always satisfied their own interests. He said those who were rejoiced at the formation of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) should be brave enough to face investigation. He said that rulers were deliberating raising hue and cry to find an escape. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, he said, was also named in different cases but he never uttered remarks out of frustration. He claimed that it was only the PPP whose leaders made numerous sacrifices for democracy. He said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto sacrificed his life for the country and refused to bow to the dictator. Members of the People’s Lawyers Forum and the LHCBA also spoke on the occasion. Later, lawyers took out a rally on The Mall to press the premier to resign from his office.
