SUKKUR: Opposition leader Khurshid Shah on Tuesday weighed in on Pakistan’s foreign policy and remarked that it failed to make an impact.
Shah, talking to the media in Sukkur, said that Pakistan had been fighting terrorists from the start, yet it was being called a ‘terrorist’ state.
“Now, the failure of foreign policies has come to the forefront,” said Shah while claiming that the PPP had stated repeatedly that there was a desperate need for a foreign minister in the PML-N government.
Talking about former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Shah said that Nawaz had earlier said he would accept the verdict of the court. However, now Nawaz was backtracking from his statement, he added,
Shah claimed that the PPP had worked tremendously to improve the lives of the people in Sindh. “People’s incomes witnessed a 125 percent increase under the PPP government,” said the opposition leader.
On Sunday, addressing an Eid gathering in Sukkur, Shah had said that Pakistan paid a heavy price in the war against terrorism. “Pakistan has been fighting terrorism from the start. We need to remind the world of Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism,” he said.
About 20,000 soldiers and 60,000 civilians had lost their lives in the fight against terrorism, he pointed out. “We need to think why the United States is always threatening Pakistan,” he said. Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) submitted on Tuesday an adjournment motion in the National Assembly over the “brutal killings and torture of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.” “The recent atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar have highlighted a grave humanitarian issue,” it said in the statement addressed to the National Assembly secretary.
