PESHAWAR: Legendary actor Iftikhar Qaiser breathed his last on Sunday morning after a prolonged battle with diabetes and stomach disorders at the Lady Reading hospital.
Qaiser was admitted to the hospital on 9th September after his health deteriorated rapidly over a short period.
The famed actor started his acting career at a young age with a play on the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV). His versatility and acting skills earned him a special place in the drama industry and a huge number of fans across the country.
His acting career spanned over 40 years with appearances in hundreds of Hindko, Pashto and Urdu plays.
Last week, Qaiser’s son, Hasnain, had complained that delays by the hospital administration in admitting him to the hospital had resulted in the actor having to wait outside the hospital for several hours; the hospital admission had said that complications with Qaiser’s test results had caused the delay. When news of Qaisar’s health condition started getting around, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that she had instructed ministry officials to ensure Qaisar was receiving proper medical care.
