GUJRANWALA: The second convocation of the Gujranwala Medical College (GMC) was held on Monday, during which 98 graduates were awarded degrees and given medals.
Punjab Health Minister Salman Rafiq was the chief guest. The ceremony was also attended by GMC Principal Aftab Mohsin, lawmakers Mehmood Bashir Virk, Abdul Rauf Mughal, Taufeeq Butt and others.
Rafiq congratulated the students on their success and urged them to serve Pakistan with honesty and dedication. He said that what the students had achieved was a great source of pride for the country and the college. He asked graduates to uphold the noble practice of medicine while not forgetting the importance of serving humanity.
Later, Rafiq presided over a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office to review anti-dengue arrangements. He directed officers concerned to accelerate efforts against dengue. Rafiq also visited the District Headquarters Hospital where he inspected the trauma centre, Urology Department, transplant centre, MRI centre and paediatric ward.
PFA seals pepper factory: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Monday sealed a pepper factory over alleged adulteration.
The PFA team, led by Director Operations Bilawal Abro, on a tip off raided the Master Chilli, Wazirabad and recovered a large quantity of adulterated peppers, low quality textile dye as well as other material and registered a case against owners of the factory.
Woman dies in traffic collision: Gujranwala: A woman died in a traffic collision in Saddar area of Gujranwala on Monday.
According to details, a couple was riding a motorcycle near Wazirabad when they were hit by a car. The woman, Sardara, died on the spot and her husband Rafiq was seriously injured. Rafiq was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital by a Rescue 1122 team.
DC vaccinates children against polio: Gujranwala: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Amir Jan administered polio drops to children at a bus stand while inaugurating a three day anti-polio campaign on Monday.
The campaign will last until September 20. The DC asked officials concerned to perform their duties diligently and ensure maximum children get vaccinated.
