KARACHI: The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, a religious group that has blocked the federal capital’s Faizabad Interchange, also shut down Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi on Saturday, causing massive gridlocks on the city’s major roads.
The protesters staged a sit-in, blocking the way to MA Jinnah Road, Garden, and Soldier Bazaar areas of the metropolis. The blockade also caused traffic jams in Saddar, Guru Mandir and other surrounding areas. Responding to the traffic situation, the traffic police advised people to avoid Numaish Chowrangi and instead choose routes leading from Shahrah-e-Faisal and Garden.
The protesters claimed that they would not move till the demands of the protesters in Islamabad were met. It may be mentioned here that around 2,000 protesters at the Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad had been demanding the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid over the hastily abandoned amendment to the prophethood declaration clause in the Elections Act, 2017.
