LAHORE: During a National Assembly (NA) session on Monday, the government failed to present a bill pertaining to merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
Reportedly, opposition was irked due to the delay in the finalizing of the bill and tore the copies of the bill during the session.
The lawmakers from tribal areas protested over the change in assembly agenda regarding FATA Reforms Bill.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed postponed the debate temporarily by saying that the bill “required further consultation which is why it was not tabled”.
Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah lambasted the government for putting the reforms bill on hold.
“The incumbent government played another joke,” Shah said.
He also asked why the matter was excluded from the agenda.
He further said that the entire nation wanted FATA to become a constitutional part of the country. He warned that the opposition would stage a walk-out from the assembly if the bill was not presented.
