ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Kalsoom Parveen confessed on Tuesday that she voted in favour of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) nominee Saleem Mandviwala as deputy Chairman.
The Senator from Balochistan owned up her support to the opposition party in the contest of Senate leadership on Monday. She stated that she didn’t vote for Pahstunkhwa Mili Awaami Party’s (Pk-MAP) Usman Kakar, who secured only 44 votes in the contest of deputy Chairman in the Senate session. The opposition party’s contestant Mandviwala secured 54 votes to win the seat, defeating Kakar with 10 votes.
Similarly, in the race for the chairmanship, PML-N’s contestant Raja Zafarul Haq bagged only 46 votes, whereas the PML-N leaders prior to the race for leadership had repeatedly assured while talking to the media that they had enough numbers to sweep the Senate leadership.
Earlier on Tuesday, Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan had announced an inquiry into their defeat, initiating a probe into the Senators who changed their support behind the secret ballot.
