ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday issued arrest warrants of fugitive suspects Khadim Hussain Rizvi and others in Faizabad sit-in- case.
The police said the warrants have been obtained from all respective courts. The ATC issued warrants charging the suspects of involvement in terrorist activities under five cases at Islamabad’s I-9 police station.
The ATC had ordered on March 19, the arrest of absconders Khadim Hussain Rizvi and Afzal Qadri, to be presented before the court on April 4.
Previously the ATC had summoned the suspects Rizvi, Maulana Inayat and Sheikh Izhar to appear before the court, who failed to show up and have been recognised as fugitives. The court stated that if the accused failed to appear before the court within the next 30 days starting from then onwards, they will be announced as “proclaimed offenders”.
The Faizabad sit-in by the religious parties protesting at Faizabad Interchange against the government on the amendment in the Elections Act 2017, held the capital still for three weeks in November last year. The protest ended with the reversal of the amendment and with the resignation of the Law Minister, Zahid Hamid.
