KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has shown its serious reservations on the mandatory requirement of a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) of the head of the family in the coming census.
This was stated by the PPP leader Senator Saeed Ghani while addressing a press conference in which political workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N), All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and Awami National Party (ANP) joined the PPP here on Friday. Ghani said the mandatory requirement of a CNIC in the coming census should be immediately withdrawn. The census should count all immigrants and peoples from other nationalities so that we should know the exact figures of aliens. Some important leaders and workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are in contact with the party’s leadership at various levels and they will join the PPP soon, he informed. There is a wrong impression that police killers were given clean chit by the PPP government.
In 2008, the PPP government received a demoralized police department in inheritance, he added. There was no government of PPP from 1996 to 2008 and during that period police officials and personnel were targeted in the metropolis. Dost Mohammed, Imran Victor, Shahid Kharoti, Amir Hanif, Akbar Khan Yousufzai, Naz Baloch and others joined the PPP.
