LAHORE: The Punjab government announced a day of mourning for the victims of the Charing Cross blast, with the funeral prayers of the seven policemen killed being held on Tuesday.
The funerals were attended by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and provincial governor Rafique Rajwana, with those killed including senior police officers such as Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmed Mobin and Police Senior Superintendent Zahid Gondal.
The blast, which took place during a protest by medical store owners at Charing Cross, resulted in the deaths of 13 people including the police officials and injuries to 95 others.
The traders’ association said that as per the government’s announcement they would keep markets closed on Tuesday to mourn the deaths.
Hospital officials said that several victims of the blast who were under treatment were in critical condition.
The CM also visited the injured in various hospitals. He directed hospital administration to provide the injured with the best treatment.
Provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah, had earlier in the day told media that the attacker had been identified.
