KARACHI: Police shot dead two suspected Islamic State (IS) militants during a raid in Manghopir area of the metropolis during the wee hours on Friday.
According to SSP West Nasir Aftab, a police team carried out a raid on a tip-off in Manghopir areas. The police claimed that the suspects opened fire on them. Police in retaliated the fire, killing two suspects. A policeman was also wounded in the operation. The dead were identified as Saifullah and Haneef. However, their accomplices managed to flee.
Weapons, including hand grenades, a motorcycle and laptops, were found in the house. The SSP said a hit-list of 11 people, including Dr Amir Liaquat, Jibran Nasir, DSP Mehdi Imam, SSP Rao Anwar and other police officials, were found on the laptop.
Police said the terrorists had been planning a terrorist attack in the city and they were also wanted to police in the cases of sectarian and target killing of policemen. After a massive bomb attack at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh, security forces hit back at militant groups across the country and claimed to have eliminated hundreds of terrorists in a series of raids on their hideouts and gun battles.
