LAHORE: Girls outshined boys in the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) results of primary and middle schools, announced on Friday.
The average result of primary schools remained 82 percent while that of the middle 83 percent.
As many as 1.35 million students appeared in the primary examination while over 1.03 million appeared in the middle exams.
Students belonging to rural areas and small cities took positions in both classes whereas the son of a rickshaw driver stood second in class 8th.
In primary standard, Nida Kanwal and Malaika Zafar of the Thal Public School, Khushab, bagged first position by security 492 marks each. Second position was clinched by Aneela Mukhtar of same school. Aleena Abid and Muhammad Kashir of the Thal Public School, while Muhammad Abdullah of the Qazi Grammar School, Lahore, got third position.
Similarly, in middle standards, Rushan Zahra Rizvi of the Zubaida Academy School Bhakkar took first position by securing 494 marks, whereas second position was secured by three students, Muhamamd Maaz of the Danish School Chishtian, Bahawalnagar, Ayesha Nawaz of Dar-e-Arqam School, Bhakkar, and Rida Fatima of the Islamic Alta Vista School, Sargodha. Third position was taken by Muhammad Naeem of the Danish School Dera Ghazi Khan and Arooba Tayyab of the GGHS MC Junior School, Sahiwal.
Meanwhile, Punjab School Education Minister Rana Mashhood gave credit to the “education-friendly policies” of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN)-led government in Punjab for “better results”. He said that critics were criticising the education policies of the Punjab government but “we had made tremendous efforts in the education sector”. The Punjab government, he said, had allocated Rs 312 million for school education in previous budget, which was a proof of its “education-friendly policies”.
