GUJRANWALA: The city on Labour Day paid tributes to those who laid down their lives in Chicago for the rights of workers. Labour organisations across the district took out processions and rallies to highlight the problems of the workers. The main rally was taken out from Sheranwala Bagh to Gondlanwala Chowk.
It was led by labour leaders Mian Attaur Rehman, Naseeruddin and Hamayun Malik. Addressing the rally, speakers pledged to continue their struggle for the cause of workers and keep playing their role in nation building. They urged the government to increase daily wages. Meanwhile, a group of traffic wardens led by Zahir Commando distributed flowers. They also announced to give their one-day salary to the workers. PPP leader Sagheer Butt distributed lunch boxes among factory workers to show solidarity with them on the Labour Day.
