ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) will continue its struggle for the annihilation of terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence, stated PUC Chairman Tahir Ashrafi on Sunday.
Addressing the office-bearers and representatives of PUC, Ashrafi said that violation on the part of the Afghan security troops at the Chaman border is condemnable and the international community should take notice in this regard. PUC has been playing a role of an ideological front against the mindset of terrorism and extremism, said Ashrafi. The cleric added that PUC leadership was playing a key role against those fanning sectarian violence in the country. The council is all set and committed to host, “Unity of Ummah Conference” that will be held on May 24th in Lahore, affirmed Ashrafi.
He also said that the unity of theconference is being arranged for the promotion of interfaith harmony and Inter-sect coexistence in the country. Denouncing the Afghan security forces for attacking Pakistani security personnel at Chaman border, he demanded that the government raise its voice against the aggression at world forums. Indian and Afghan leadership should not consider Pakistan’s desire for peace as a weakness and Afghan leadership should cooperate with Pakistan for regional peace, he asserted.
Meanwhile, PUC Central Vice-chairman Ayub Safdar said the court has restrained anyone from using the name of Pakistan Ulema Council as Ashrafi was its chairman.
On this occasion, Tahir Aqeel, Zubair Zahid, Abdul Hakeem Athar, Islamuddin, Abdul Qayyum, Aslam Qadri, Mumtaz Rabbani and Saadullah Farooq also addressed the event.
