ISLAMABAD: As many as three hundred train accidents occurred from 2013 to November 2016 according to the official data of Pakistan Railways.
Highlighting the different classification of these accidents, the documents stated that 46 accidents occurred in 2013, 72 in 2014,110 in 2015 and 72 in November 2016.
These accidents varied from collision of passenger trains, collision of goods trains, derailment of passenger trains, derailment of mixed trains, derailment of freight trains, fire in trains and others.
It was also pointed out that the collision of passenger and freight trains occurred in 2016.
It was also revealed in the data that a total of 88 accidents occurred due to derailment of passenger trains in 2013,2014, 2015 and till November 2016 respectively.
A total of 96 accidents occurred due to derailment of freight trains with 9 accidents in 2013, 22 in 2014, 37 in 2015 and 28 and 2016.
The statistics also reveal that the causes of these 300 accidents vary from human error, damaged track, mechanical issue in locomotives, electrical failure and involvement of anti- state elements to sabotage the trains and damaging the tracks.
As per the data, these accidents have claimed 67 lives while 357 got injured.
