ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday visited the troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) where they assured him that no Indian misadventure will go without a befitting response.
The Army chief was given briefing about the ongoing operations, Indian ceasefire violations and Pakistani soldiers’ response to them, ISPR said in a statement. Gen Bajwa said the Pakistan Army was well aware of the security challenges and fully capable of responding to the threats ‘irrespective of the front’. He praised the Kashmiris fighting the Indian occupation and oppression for their right to self-determination. He reiterated that Pakistan will continue its support for the right to self-determination for “our Kashmiri brothers” in India-held Kashmir.
While interacting with the troops, the COAS appreciated their state of operational readiness, exemplary high morale and motivation for the fulfillment of their assigned mission, the statement added.
Meanwhile, an elderly resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was killed after Indian troops hit him from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday, police sources revealed. The death of Shabbir Khan, who was said to be in his late sixties, in Polas village of Abbaspur sector in the southern Poonch district, coincided with the visit of Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa to the LoC in Muzaffarabad sector.
“The victim was doing some household work in the courtyard of his house when the trigger-happy Indian troops hit him with a burst of fire at about 2pm,” a police official from the area said. “He died after some time on the spot,” the official added.
Military sources also confirmed the death of the civilian in Indian firing.
