KARACHI: The police claimed to have solved the blind murder case of woman journalist who was found dead in her house last week, and have arrested the alleged murderer.
According to the police the murderer was a former resident of the same building and the deceased knew him. She called him one day before Eid for the repairing her air-conditioned but greed over came the culprit who killed her to loot the jewellery and cash along with other valuable things she had in her house.
The case was successfully probed by the investigation police of district east in less than a week. Senior female journalist Zeba Burney, 65, was found dead in mysterious circumstances inside her residential apartment in Khudadad Colony within the limits of Brigade police station on the first day of Eidul Fitr. He was murdered in the night before Eid. Her housemaid found her dead body hanging when she entered the home on Eid day and later informed the neighbours and the police. The police later registered a murder case against unidentified persons on behalf of victim’s brother Zafar after the police was doubtful that the victim was murdered instead of committing suicide.
The investigation police on Saturday claimed to have probed the case while arresting a suspect allegedly involved in her murder. His arrest was disclosed by Investigations SSP Zulfiqar Maher during a press conference held at his office. “It was a challenging case,” said SSP Maher. “There were not enough evidences in the case but despite this we have probed this case in a very short time.” The arrested accused was identified as Kashif Jamil who murdered the senior journalist to loot cash, jewellery and other valuables. “He killed her after she offered resistance on robbing bid.” The accused strangled her to death with the help of telephone wire and later hanged her body to give the impression that she committed suicide.
The accused was a former neighbour of the victim but was asked to leave the apartment after he was unable to pay the rent. Deceased was a senior journalist and had been associated with a local Urdu newspaper for over 30 years. Her husband was also a journalist and died about 15 years ago. Deceased was retired nowadays and was living alone. She was also associated with Karachi Press Club. Sindh home minister Sohail Anwar Sial had also taken notice of her murder while ordering the police officials concerned to arrest the culprit. Karachi Union of Journalist had also condemned the incident and demanded to probe the case.
