LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court Thursday set aside appointment of Justice (r) Asad Munir as the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) administrator.
The bench directed Asad Munir to relinquish the charge immediately. The bench also sought details of the expenditures made during the tenure of the administrator.
A single bench, while hearing a petition about a dispute in the PFF, had appointed Asad Munir to run the federation’s affairs till final decision.
The PFF officials moved an intra-court appeal against the single bench order.
Counsel for the applicant argued that there were two factions of the PFF and the officials of the federal government were interfering in its affairs. He said that the government had no authority to regulate the PFF affairs.
He said that the LHC single bench, while hearing a petition about a dispute in the PFF had appointed Asad Munir as administrator, which was unjust. He requested the court to set aside the single bench order.
Counsel for the government said that it was wrong to stay the government was interfering in the PFF affairs. He said that these were two factions, which were trying to get control of the PFF.
The litigation started after ex-federal minister Faisal Saleh Hayat was elected PFF president. A petition was moved in the court against Faisal Saleh election, saying that the Punjab Sports Board had started intervening in the federation’s affairs.
Former provincial minister Arshad Khan Lodhi had also challenged the election of Faisal Saleh as the PFF president.
