ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Water and Power announced that it had increased loadshedding by one hour for urban and two hours for rural areas without disclosing the amount of electricity shortfall.
The ministry said in a statement, “The consumers in urban and rural areas would have to bear four-hour power shortage compared with six-hours in rural areas.”
A statement was announced by the Ministry of Water and Power, which stated, “The ministry regrets the inconvenience caused to the consumers.”
The unannounced loadshedding was the result of sudden increase in temperatures and unprecedented fall in reservoir levels that reduced power generation from hydro resources which caused unscheduled loadshedding on March 27 and 28 causing inconvenience to the consumers.
The statement said, “The increase in temperatures throughout the country and the sudden surge in demand created a deficit which could not be met by the reduced loadshedding of three hours for urban and four hours for rural areas with zero power outage for industries and higher loadshedding on low recovery and high theft feeders.”
Since the dams would take few days to fill up, the government had decided to increase loadshedding period, said the ministry.
