KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) unveiled an honorary coin in a press event at the headquarters to commemorate late humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi’s services in the country.
Speaking at the event, Faisal Edhi, the late philanthropist’s son and heir expressed his gratitude to the Pakistani government and SBP.
“I intend to continue the mission of Edhi sahib, and believe that it should be carried on until the end of times,” Faisal Edhi said. He also urged the citizens to take inspiration from his father, adding that “everyone should help take this mission forward, and partake in all services for the humanity.”
The decision to issue the commemorative coin was announced earlier on March 28, by the federal government, following a cabinet meeting held on July 15, 2016. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agreed to put out the coin in a nod to Edhi’s meritorious services.
With regard to its availability, the coin can be purchased from exchange counters of SBP Banking Services Corporation’s 16 branches across the country.
To date, 27 honorary coins have been issued, four of which were to memorialise founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and his sister Fatima Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, and Benazir Bhutto.
