KARACHI: A delegation of Chinese ophthalmologists will feature in ‘KAROPHTH 2017’, a conference on corneal issues that will be held in August in Karachi. The Chinese ophthalmologists will participate in the conference for the first time, under the umbrella of ‘Pak-China Medical Corridor’. The conference will be held in Karachi from August 18- 20 in collaboration with Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan (OSP), Karachi. Apart from Chinese experts, delegates from England and USA would also attend the conference. Talking to Daily Times, Dr. Wasiq Qazi, executive member OSP said recently a delegate of Chinese ophthalmologists visited Karachi and confirmed the participation. With the start of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), cooperation between Pakistan and China in health sector has also enhanced, he said. “The establishment of Pak-China Medical Corridor is enhancing cooperation between the two friendly countries in the field of medicine and surgery,” Dr Qazi added. He said special sessions for Pak-China ophthalmologists have also being programmed where experts from both countries will exchange their valuable experience. According to Dr Qazi, a special session regarding donating the organ would also be held during the conference. “In Pakistan corneal donation is very low as there are certain misconceptions and lack of awareness about organ donations. There is need to create awareness regarding this,” he added.
