KARACHI: Edhi Foundation said on Monday that its mortuary at Korangi has halted operations after being left without electricity by K-Electric (KE) for over a week.
In a statement, an Edhi Foundation spokesman claimed that despite payment of the bill the power utility has suspended supply for more than a week. Due to the non-supply of electricity, bodies are not being kept at the mortuary. “The situation is creating hardships for the citizens”, spokesman said.
However, a spokesperson of K-Electric refuted Edhi Foundation’s claim. “Power supply of Edhi morgue in Korangi was not disconnected by K-Electric nor any outage of such nature was reported,” the spokesperson claimed.
“Upon receiving complaint teams were mobilized. The fault turned out to be internal which KE teams pointed out and was rectified by the shelter staff,” Sadia Dada, K-Electric spokesperson added.
She said KE has great respect for Edhi sahib and the Foundation and KE extends all possible support. KE treats any queries from Edhi Foundation with utmost priority, she claimed.
