ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan gave a stay order to Ittefaq Sugar Mills, Chaudhry and Habib Sugar Mills and ordered them to stop crushing for a week.
The apex court voiced anger over sugar mills’ snubbing of the court’s order to stop functioning. The court also signalled to kick-start contempt of court proceedings in case the orders are not followed. The court approved the appeal of JDW Sugar Mills.
According to a private television channel, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen voiced his joy saying that he fought a legal battle against Sharif family for two years and won.
During the hearing, petitioner Jahangir Khan Tareen’s counsel AitezazAhsan said he fears, “Letters from Qatari Prince.”
Counsel Salman Akram Raja, who appeared before the court on behalf of Ittefaq Sugar Mills said employees will get out of job if the crushing ceases.
Annulling the interim order by Lahore High Court (LHC), the apex court ordered Chaudhry and Habib Sugar Mills not to go for crushing for a week’s time.
