ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of an order of a jirga in Jacobabad.
A local jirga on Wednesday ordered a local, Muhammad Hashim Khoso, to either pay Rs1.3 million within three months or give away his two daughters as ‘compensation.’
The jirga order was given under Vani, a cultural custom wherein young girls are forcibly married as part of punishment for a crime committed by her male relatives.
The police took two young girls and their fathers in safe custody after the notice.
Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday summoned a detailed report from DIG Larkana on the case.
The spokesman for the Supreme Court said that chief justice took notice of the jirga verdict over media reports.
The ruling came in Zubair Khan Khoso Goth situated in district Jacobabad of Sindh.
Muhammad Hashim’s brother, Muhammad Rafiq Khoso, was charged in a Karo Kari case recently. The jirga found Rafiq guilty of being involved with a married woman.
Meanwhile, police apprehended three people, including the landlord Abdul Gaffar Khoso and two others who were members of the Jirga.
Police have also filed cases against others who were present at the jirga.
