KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) showing concerns over the attitude and priorities of the federal government towards the healthcare facilities and medical education in the country hoped that the newly-appointed governor will not only represent the federation but also take decisions in the interest of the common people of province.
The PMA hoped that the Sindh governor would encourage merit and take decisions in favour of competency. Previous and present federal governments have failed to appoint a governor in the province, who can perform his duties with honesty and consideration of merit, it said.
This was stated by Dr S.M.Qaisar Sajjad, the Secretary General of PMA while speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday. Former secretary generals of PMA, including Dr. Kaleem Butt, Dr. Shershah Syed, Dr. Habib ur Rehman Soomro and Dr. Mirza Ali Azhar were also present.
“The new governor will act in favour of merit when he takes decisions regarding educational affairs of province. He will be able to act against the incompetency in appointing of Vice Chancellors of universities,” Dr Sajjad hoped.
He said that the governor as chancellor of universities and patron of several educational institutes and has a moral duty to give best possible attention towards running of educational and professional institutes.
The former PMA office-bearers said that concerned citizens of Sindh hope that he (Muhammad Zubair) would act to promote a healthy environment in the city.
“He will support and protect campaign against pollution, and work for the provision of clean drinking water in the province,” they added.
They congratulated Mr Muhammad Zubair on his appointment as the governor of Sindh.
