LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated a railway flyover in Raiwind on Sunday.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the chief minister said flyover has been completed within six months with a total outlay of over Rs 1 billion. He said that the Punjab government was paying equal attention to uplift of urban and rural areas.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif has said that speedy completion of energy project is top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Talking to Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lieutenant General (r) Muzammil Hussain, who called on the chief minister here on Sunday, the chief minister said that several energy projects were near completion.
The incumbent government, he said, had ensured transparency and high quality in all the projects. He said that Rs 112 billion had been saved from gas-based power projects.
Briefing the chief minister on water and hydropower projects, the WAPDA chairman said that 2,485MW hydropower projects would be completed in the mid of 2018. “Early completion of under-construction projects, initiation of construction work on new projects is out top priority,” he said.
He said that Phase-I of the Kachhi Canal Project would also be completed by the end this year, which would irrigate 72,000 acres of land in Dera Bugti.
He said that the WAPDA was trying hard to award contracts of main civil works of Mohmand Dam and Diamer-Bhasha Dam till the end of December 2017.
Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra called on the Shahbaz Sharif here on Sunday and exchanged words on matters of mutual interest and promotion of inter-provincial harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan had been put on path of progress. “Pakistan belongs to all of us and we have to work collectively for its development,” he said, adding that negative politics were not in favour of Pakistan.
KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that development projects in Punjab were a role model for other provinces. He said that the credit for saving billions of rupees through transparency in different projects went to the PML-N leadership. He said that Shahbaz Sharif has set a glorious example of completing several projects on time.
