GUJRANWALA: Renowned PPP leader Sagheer Butt on Monday expressed his deep concerns over the poor performance of DHQ Hospital Gujranwala.
Talking to Daily Times,Butt said the hospital administration has failed miserably in providing healthcare to the people, adding that complaints against hospital management wereon the rise. The only CT scan machine has been out of order for the last five months. Poor patients were compelled to obtain CT scans from private labs. The hospital record revealed that the machine was repaired several times in the past. Butt stated private labs give ‘commission’to doctors for referring patients. The PPP leader addedthat doctors and paramedics often remain absent from duty and thenon-availability of medicine has become routine. He also revealed that doctors and other staff badly treat their patients. The district administration officials have also visited the hospital several times and vowed to improve things, but to no avail.
The hospital is deserted at night and people avoid visiting it because no doctorsare available. Critical patients are referred to Lahore. It was also revealed that’influential’ patients were entertained while the poor ones were left with no option but to wait for weeks to get operated on. He urged the hospital administration to take solid steps to improve their poor performance.
